Denise has been the Executive Director of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care since 1999, and has worked for MVHPC since 1994. She holds the degrees of Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix; Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winston-Salem State University; and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Surry Community College. Denise oversees the day to day operations of the organization for all programs and services. She has strategically seen to the growth of MVHPC into 16 counties in North Carolina and Virginia, and the development of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
Denise is married to Greg Watson and has three children: Ericka, Samuel, and Alexis. Her family lives in Ararat, North Carolina. Denise enjoys the beach, swimming, walking, and spending time with her family.
Karen has been with Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care since October 2000. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winston-Salem State University. She is also a certified Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse. She oversees the clinical operations and services for the Hospice, Palliative Care, and Transitions Programs, the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, and the Liaison Department.
Karen is married to Ricky Bellamy and has two children: Jonah, who serves in the U.S. Air Force, and Jordan, who attends college. She splits her free time between Mount Airy, NC, and North Myrtle Beach, SC. Karen likes to bass fish competitively with her husband. She gardens and loves to cook.
Barry joined Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care in 2016, with 20 years of finance experience in both the service and manufacturing industries. He has served in finance roles with companies in Surry and Forsyth counties. A native of Carroll County, he graduated from the R.B. Pamplin School of Business at Virginia Tech, with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Barry lives in Cana, Virginia, with his wife Tammy and their two children, Nathan and Anna. He enjoys family time, kid’s activities, camping, hiking, and VT sports.
Dr. Glenn Golasewski, known as "Dr. G," has been with Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care as the Chief Medical Officer since 2008. Prior to this, he had a full-time family practice in Elkin and served as a volunteer medical director for another hospice.
He began his medical career as a paramedic in Florida in the 1980s while earning a B.S. in Biology from The University of South Florida. Dr. G earned his M.D. from The University of Miami School of Medicine, and did his internship and residency in Family Medicine at Penn State University. He is dual board certified in Family Medicine and Hospice & Palliative Medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine in North Carolina and Virginia. As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Golaszewski is responsible for administering medical care, as he supervises and collaborates with nurses, nurse practitioners, and physicians to ensure our patients receive the highest quality hospice and palliative care. He enjoys teaching our staff as well as nursing, pharmacy, and medical students.
Dr. G lives with his wife, Kimberly, and their four children in Traphill, North Carolina. They belong to Elkin Valley Baptist Church. Dr. G. enjoys reading, woodworking, exercising, and has been coaching youth football for more than 10 years.
Sheila joined our Hospice team in April 1995. Sheila has been the Director of Marketing for Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care since 2005. In 2016, Sheila added the Public Relations to her role to help oversee the agency's image more closely. Sheila promotes MVHPC through health fairs, hospice events, radio, newspapers and television commercials. Her department is responsible for the development of print material, web presence and community outreach. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Marketing from the University of Phoenix. She has most recently become a Wish Granter Volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, has served on the Yadkin Valley Chamber Dobson Division Board and is currently an ambassador for the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce.
Sheila is married to Clark Jones, with whom she has two adult children, two minor children and two grandchildren. Sheila and her family reside in Mount Airy, North Carolina.
Katrina joined the team in March of 2003. She currently serves as the Director of Quality & Regulatory Compliance. She is also a Certified Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse. She oversees the Quality Department – Education, Quality Assessment, and Performance Improvement – and serves as the Compliance Officer. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Gardner-Webb University and 31 years of experience in critical care, home health, and hospice.
Katrina and husband Richard live in Yadkinville, NC. She loves spending time with family, gardening, quilting, and caring for her animal family – dogs, chickens, and birds.
Brett signed on as Director of Development for Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care in January 2016. He is a Surry County native, Valedictorian of his class at Surry Central High School in Dobson, and a graduate of Davidson College, with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
Prior to joining Mountain Valley Hospice, Brett was a sales representative for Main Oak Emporium, and Barnes & Noble. He also worked for an account management firm in Raleigh where he prepared internal agency presentations and brand guidelines for project management teams.
Pat joined the team in 1996 and has directed hospice volunteer programs since 1998. Pat holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, is certified in Volunteer Administration by the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration, and is a board-certified Human Services Practitioner.
In addition to overseeing growth and development of the Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care's Volunteer Services program, Pat represents our agency on many levels. She serves as a representative to the Surry County Aging Planning Committee, the Surry Community College Co-Op Advisory Committee, and serves nationally as a steering committee member on NHPCO’s National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals for the Volunteer Management Section.
Pat is married to Chris Younger and they reside in the Stewart’s Creek/Red Brush area of Surry County. They have adult twin daughters, one grandson and one granddaughter. Pat's hobbies include cooking, reading, and playing with her grandchildren.
If you ask, Pat will tell you she has the best job in hospice! She states our Volunteers teach her far more that she could ever teach them about community involvement, volunteerism and just plain love. Pat says, "I work in an environment where I am surrounded every day with people who are selflessly and constantly giving aid to others—nothing could be more rewarding."
Clark has been the Director of Plant Operations for Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care since November 2008. Clark oversees maintenance, environmental services, grounds, special projects, and safety at all MVHPC office locations, including the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home and the SECU Hospice Home of Yadkin.
Clark is married to Sheila Jones and they have four children. Clark and his family reside in Mount Airy, NC.
Clark is a member of the Christian Bass Anglers Club. He enjoys fishing, RV camping, and spending time on the coast. He is dedicated to his family and giving back by serving his community.
