‘Tis the Season for Pet Therapy! Meet the pet therapy dogs of the Woltz Hospice Home!
The Vizslas, Logan (shown pulling the sled here ) and River (holding the reigns here), are Hungarian hunting dogs. These dogs don’t have to hunt for anything, but that is what they were bred to do. The little fellow, Tucker (passenger here), is a rescued Brussels Griffon. They are all certified therapy dogs through an organization called Therapy Dogs International.
These dogs visit patients at the Woltz Hospice Home, they participate in a reading program through Surry County Schools, they visit residents in the skilled nursing unit at Northern Surry Hospital, and they are preparing to visit a home for troubled youth in Winston-Salem. Anne, the dogs’ owner, feel they are more rewarded by their visits to the hospice home than any of the other places they visit.
When they visit our hospice home, they do little tricks, give “doggie kisses” to patients who want them, and will even lie in the bed with patients, when the patient asks of course. Most of the time, they just get lots of pats on the head and rubs. They have been a great comfort to the patients and their families. |

Employee Christmas Party!
The MVHPC Christmas party will be held on 12/10/09 at Faith Baptist Church in Mt. Airy. Festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m.! Employees are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert to share; MVHPC will provide the rest. There will be an ornament exchange game, for those who wish to participate. Ornaments for exchange should be valued no more than $5. Mountain Valley Voices will be on-site for an annual performance. Door prizes and raffles will also be held. Contact a member of H.E.A.R.T. for further details. |

Congratulations to the three for participating in such a worthy cause.

TEAM TWILIGHT
MVHPC has some die hard Twilight fans! This bunch, with matching “Twilight Freak” shirts, met at the theater in Mt. Airy for a 9:00 showing of “Twilight”, and then stuck it out for a midnight showing of “New Moon”.
We know you enjoyed the shows, ladies! |

MVHPC is a 2009 sponsor for the Toys for Tots Program. Employees and volunteers who want to participate, are asked to bring any new, unwrapped toy, small or large, to the Mt. Airy office. Toys for Tots also accepts monetary contributions. Please see a member of H.E.A.R.T. for further information. |

H.E.A.R.T. Update (Hospice Employee Advocacy & Reward Team) |
|
H.E.A.R.T. is helping feed the needy this Christmas by hosting a canned food drive for children at local schools. Employees are invited to wear jeans every Tuesday in the month of December, in exchange for bringing at least 4 non-perishable, or canned food, items to each office. Many boxes of food have already been distributed to our schools. Keep it coming! |
|
In November, H.E.A.R.T. has started a new trend with monthly visits to each MVHPC office. The intent is to make a presence in each office on behalf of the staff to hear concerns and field questions from staff who may not get to have their voices heard otherwise. H.E.A.R.T. has visited Galax and Stuart in Virginia, and will next make an appearance at the Woltz Hospice Home in January. Have your questions and concerns ready, WHH! |
