(Yadkinville, NC) Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting today for the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin. The hospice care center will serve patients and their families from throughout the Yadkin Valley region. It is the County's first inpatient hospice facility.

"We raised more than $2.5 million dollars to help pay for this facility, and that includes a generous challenge grant from the State Employees' Credit Union, as well as donations from the community," said Denise Watson, Executive Director of Mountain Valley Hospice. "We have reached our goals for the home. However, there are multiple opportunities for continued support—for example, naming patients' rooms, outdoor community spaces, and even garden benches."

The SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin is located at 243 North Lee Avenue on land adjacent to the SECU campus in Yadkinville.

The Care Center offers a private, home-like setting, designed specifically to provide end-of-life care for patients who can no longer stay in their own home. The 11,000-square-foot facility features six 300-square-foot guest suites with private baths and outdoor patios. The Care Center also features a chapel, family living room and kitchen/dining area, a children's playroom, a teen room, community meeting room with patio, a sunroom, covered porches, and a beautiful courtyard with a view of Pilot Mountain.

Mountain Valley Hospice has been providing quality, end-of-life care and compassionate support for patients and their families for more than 30 years. Mountain Valley Hospice serves 17 counties throughout North Carolina and Virginia.

ABOUT MOUNTAIN VALLEY HOSPICE & PALLIATIVE CARE

Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care is a nonprofit organization providing high quality end-of-life care in 17 counties from 9 locations in North Carolina and Virginia. Through its team of hospice professionals and specially-trained volunteers, Mountain Valley Hospice addresses the growing need for compassionate hospice care through offices in Mount Airy, Yadkinville, Elkin, and Pilot Mountain, NC; and in Hillsville, Martinsville, and Stuart, VA.

In March 2009, Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care started serving patients and families at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. The Woltz Hospice Home is a state-of-the-art hospice facility featuring 20 patient suites with individual outdoor patios, a spa room and many more patient comforts. There is also an old-time soda shop, children's play room, and many more amenities to make family members comfortable as they stay close by their loved one during this time when families are needed most.

In July 2015, Mountain Valley Hospice announced plans to build their second in-patient hospice facility, the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin. This six-bed facility was designed with amenities to assist patients requiring end-of-life care or symptom management. The SECU Hospice Care Center in Yadkinville serves Yadkin and surrounding counties. The 2.5 million dollar "Imagine a Home" campaign to build the Care Center was led by a one million dollar challenge grant from the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union.
