Update 9/24/15: Due to the weather forecast, Patrick County Fair's Demolition Derby has been rescheduled for October 17 at 6 p.m.

STUART, Va. — Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care will rev its engine at the 63rd annual Patrick County Agricultural Fair's Demolition Derby. This marks the first time the organization has been represented by a sponsored car at the event.

Alan Hamm of Hamm’s Garage is sponsoring a red 1981 Chevy Impala for Mountain Valley Hospice. A 15-year vet of the derby, Hamm explained that he wanted to help advertise the organization, calling it "a really good cause." He particularly praised the interdisciplinary teams who served his grandparents. "I'm just trying to pay back the kindness they got."

Hamm is married to April Hamm, the medical records specialist in Mountain Valley Hospice's Stuart office. When preparing vehicles for the derby, he paints them while April does the decaling.

Hamm will be in the driver’s seat when Mountain Valley Hospice's co-sponsored Impala hits the Demolition Derby at Rotary Field on Friday at 8 p.m. Admission to the fair is $5. For more details, visit Facebook.com/PatrickCountyFair.
