YADKINVILLE, NC—Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care broke ground today on a new hospice home in Yadkin County. The hospice facility will serve patients and their families from throughout the Yadkin Valley region. It will be the County's first inpatient hospice facility.

"Our goal was to raise $2.5 million dollars to help pay for this facility, and thanks to a generous Challenge Grant from the State Employees' Credit Union, as well as support from the Yadkinville community, I am happy to report that we have already raised over $2 million toward that goal," said Denise Watson, Executive Director of Mountain Valley Hospice. "Fund raising efforts will continue, and we expect to reach our goal in the coming months."

The new SECU Hospice Home of Yadkin will be located at North Lee Avenue on land adjacent to the SECU campus in Yadkinville.

"The demand for hospice services is growing at a constant rate, and we do not see this trend slowing," said Watson. "Currently about 40 percent of critically- or terminally-ill patients in Yadkin County use hospice services, and when the new hospice home is completed, we will be able to provide compassionate, end-of-life care to a larger percentage of those patients."

The new SECU Hospice Home of Yadkin will offer a private, home-like setting, designed specifically to provide end-of-life care for patients who can no longer stay in their own home. The 11,000-square-foot facility will feature six 300-square-foot patient suites with private baths and enclosed outdoor patios. The new hospice home will also feature a chapel, family living room, kitchen, dining area, a children's playroom, a teen room, community meeting room with covered patio, a sunroom, covered porches, and a beautiful courtyard with a view of Pilot Mountain.

Mountain Valley Hospice has been providing quality end-of-life care and compassionate support for patients and their families for over 30 years. Mountain Valley Hospice serves 16 counties throughout North Carolina and Virginia.
